Relay kick-off on Feb. 13

The 2014 El Dorado Relay For Life’s baseball-themed kick-off event has been changed to Feb. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the North Main Pizza Hutch.

The program will include pizza and drinks sponsored by AseraCare, door prizes, a mini-luminaria ceremony, and sign-up tables for team captains. Cancer survivors are also encouraged to attend and sign up to receive Relay information.

The El Dorado Relay is going to be held from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 20-21. “Field of Dreams” activities are baseball-themed and may include: hot dog eating contest, homerun derby, dizzy bat game, mini-baseball/softball camps for kids, baseball movies, local musicians and kickball.

Throughout the night, teams sponsor activities, fundraising events, and concessions. Stay the night or come back for breakfast and the wrap-up ceremony.

How does a team form? It starts with a person taking five simple steps. One, identify a reason to Relay. Two, invite friends, family, and co-workers to join. Three, visit, fundraise – and every penny does count when it comes to saving lives. By raising $100, Relayers earn a t-shirt. Five, show up enthusiastic and have a ball.

What if I don’t know who to donate to or cannot attend? Visit the Relay website to make direct donations. Cancer patients batting away at cancer have more hope when they’ve got supporters on the bench to back them up.

Cancer does not discriminate nor does it wait, so take one for the team and dedicate a bit of your time this year toward knocking cancer out of the park.
