Augusta’s girls bowling team rode its hot start to a big victory at Thursday’s triangular with Newton and Andale.
Bethany Watson had six strikes in the first seven frames and Katy Nordman hit several strikes in a row to pace the Orioles in the first game. Augusta finished with 814 for the high game of the day. The Orioles finished with 2324 pins to Newton’s 1814 and Andale’s 1616.
Nordman topped 200 all three games, including a high of 237 in that opener for a 664 series. Watson was right behind her with games of 224 and 233 on way to a 651 series. Madison Marcotte, who took fourth overall, had a 520 series. Abby Emmitt bowled a 467 series, Ashtyn Flower had a 436 series and Mason Kuether, who is bowling off-handed after injuring her right hand, bowled a 302.
On the boys side, The Orioles had a strong start, but faded in Games 2 and 3 as Newton snuck in for the win with a score of 2286. Augusta was second with 2063 while Andale was third (1949).
Augusta’s Chase Hallmark had the second-best day of the triangular with a 579 series to lead the Orioles. He had a team game-high 226 in the opener and a 202 in Game 2. Scott McMurphy, who finished second on the team with a 528 series, had a 220 game in the opener.
Quentin Araiza bowled a 483 series for the Orioles. Andrew Orocio bowled had a 471. Nate Kroeker and Elijah Owens both bowled a 431 series.
Augusta will compete next at The Alley Tuesday, Jan. 28 for a triangular against McPherson and Wichita Independent.
