All eight Wichita area YMCAs are raising money for their Annual Campaign

All eight Wichita area YMCAs are raising money for their Annual Campaign, which raises money for low-income families, especially those with children, to be able to use the Y’s facilities.

The citywide goal of the Annual Campaign for 2014 is to raise $2.1 million to help families in need. Each branch has its own individual goal as well.

The Y has several fundraising events throughout the Annual Campaign, which ends in March, that are designed to raise money for the campaign. One upcoming event is the annual Bowl-a-thon.

The 2014 Bowl-a-thon is scheduled for Feb. 8 at Northrock Lanes, located at 32nd St. and Rock Rd. in Wichita. It starts at 11:30 a.m. and goes until 12:45 that night.

To participate in the Bowl-a-thon, a team of six is required to bowl. Each team member is responsible for collecting at least $100, with the minimum team goal being $600. Each person who raises more than $1,200 or more will be entered into a drawing for an iPad.

The citywide goal for the Bowl-a-thon is $150,000. Teams have until Tuesday to submit their packets to their branch’s Administrative Assistant.

Alternatively, if interested parties cannot attend the Bowl-a-thon, they can still contribute to the Annual Campaign by simply walking into a Y branch and making a donation. Interested parties should contact Tracy Ingram at the Andover YMCA at 316-733-9622 or at, or at the El Dorado branch, contact Rebecca Debita at 316-320-9622 or For contact information of the other Wichita YMCA branches, visit

Nearly all the money raised during the Annual Campaign goes to families in need. Ninety-five percent of each donation goes directly to programs to strengthen the community. And the majority of those benefiting from the donations are children; 74 percent of those who benefit from the Annual Campaign are children.
