Ralph E. Green, 73, El Dorado, died Monday, Jan.20, 2014.
Celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. Burial will follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Ralph was born March 17, 1940 to Everett and Maxine (Brinkmeyer) Green in Independence, Kan. The family later moved to El Dorado and he graduated in the class of 1958. Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1959 to 1962. He met and married Nancy Steward on June 30, 1965 in El Dorado. Ralph went to work for the City of El Dorado as a firefighter on Jan. 1, 1964 and worked his way up to position as Fire Chief by the time of his retirement on Aug. 31, 2000. He loved hunting and fishing being outside in the Flinthills, and since retiring he enjoyed being a cowboy and riding his horses. His relationship with his fellow co-workers and community defined his love for El Dorado.
Surviving family: his wife, Nancy of the home; daughter, Jamie Graham of Valley Center; granddaughter ,Stacia Graham of Valley Center; brother, Dwight Green of Mulvane.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary.
Memorials have been requested in lieu of flowers. They can be made out to the First United Methodist Church Youth Group or the Horse Project 4-H Butler County and may be left with Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
