It’s official. The YMCA has gone insane. Beginning this February, all Greater Wichita YMCA locations will offer new INSANITYŽ Bootcamps. That’s right. What had only been seen on TV, now becomes live at the Y as the popular DVD workout series is taken to the next level in the new INSANITY Bootcamps. “INSANITY started offering Shaun T certifications last March,” commented YMCA Metropolitan Group Exercise Director Shalen Scheltgen. “We wanted to bring this successful program to Wichita and worked with the creators for months to get 15 local trainers certified to offer these live classes.” INSANITY Bootcamp classes offer nationally certified trainers, fitness progress reports, and a one-hour full-body workout. Bootcamps meet once a week and are available to YMCA members for $26/month or $8/class. Non-members may also participate for $46/month or $12/class. “There are several things that set INSANITY Bootcamps apart from the DVD series,” continued Scheltgen. “First, there’s nothing like a live instructor. You can’t cheat or hit pause when they’re standing right in front of you. In addition, they’re trained to not only help you modify the exercises to your fitness level but also make sure you’re performing the exercise to be safe and get top results.” The energy and accountability of working out with a group also help generate greater results, Scheltgen noted. “It’s fun to watch people walk in alone to a class and walk out with new friends,” he said. What is INSANITY? Centered on the popular cardio-based, total-body conditioning program many have seen advertised on television, INSANITY Bootcamps keep the body working at maximum capacity for an explosive workout generating results. INSANITY creator, fitness expert Shaun T, drew on his collegiate track-and-field training plus his experience as an elite trainer to develop this revolutionary fitness program that takes total-body conditioning to an extreme level. Unlike traditional workouts that feature short bursts of maximum intensity with longer periods of rest, INSANITY flips that formula upside-down. INSANITY uses MAX Interval Training, which replaces traditional moderate-intensity exercise with maximum-intensity exercise, and trades short intervals of intensity for short periods of rest. INSANITY’s high-intensity activity forces the body to work for longer periods of time at a higher capacity than traditional workouts. As a result, people experience faster increases in cardiovascular fitness, and burn carbohydrates and fat more efficiently—as much as 1,000 calories per hour! INSANITY Bootcamp schedule for Butler County Ys: Bootcamps meet weekly at these times, starting Feb. 1: • Andover YMCA (1115 E. US Highway 54) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. • El Dorado YMCA (300 N. Main) at 6 p.m. Wednesdays.
