Augusta’s wrestling team just can’t seem to get past Kapaun.

The Crusaders, who were hosting their home dual tournament Saturday in Wichita, handed Augusta its first dual loss of the season, and it wasn’t the prettiest score. The Orioles won the first two bouts for a 9-0 lead, but Kapaun won 10 of 12 bouts for an easy 42-18 victory.

That was the only rough spot for the Orioles, who beat Campus 38-25, Wichita West 49-21, Wichita Southeast 76-0 and Olathe Northwest 56-15.

Against Kapaun, the Orioles had a couple of close losses. Shane Bosley took a narrow 2-1 loss and Cody Thompson came up short in an 8-7 contest. Tyler Hildibrand got one of his three pins on the day, and Jake Goldenstein got an 11-4 decision against the Crusaders. Hildibrand finished the day with a 3-2 record.

Connor Spellman had a strong outing as well. He got three pins and finished 4-1. Rob Winzer also finished 4-1 with three pins and a major decision. Blake Aitchison won three of his matches with pins and finished with a solid 4-1 outing.

Goldenstein had a big day for the Orioles. He got a pin, two major decisions and went 5-0 to lead the Orioles.

Nathan Moore went 3-2 with two pins and a major decision. Josh Moore also went 3-2 with one major decision.

Kalaeb Bratton was 3-2 with a pin, tech win and a major decision. Colton Clayborn got pins for his three wins and finished 3-2. Thompson had a major decision and a pin on way to a 3-2 record. Ian O’Laughlin also got three pins on way to a 3-2 record.

Bosley was 2-2 on the day. Blake Watkins got two pins and was 2-2.

Nigel Callison was 1-4. Scott Hooglugt won his only match of the day.

The Orioles will host Winfield for a dual Thursday evening. They are off Saturday, Jan. 25.
