  • Basketball round-up: Augusta JV teams win

  • Augusta's junior varsity girls team was the only one to get a win against Rose Hill Friday night. Kylie Wesbrooks and Bailey Carr each led the Orioles with six points as they beat the Rockets 32-25.
    Nicole Becker scored five points, Carly Sears had four, Morgan Kirk and Baylee Johnston had three apiece, Sophia Dalziel and Brooke Eberhardt both scored two points and Riley Zerr added one for the Orioles.
    Dominique Milsap scored nine points to lead Rose Hill. Anna Van Driel scored eight points. Cristina Sainz had four, and Taryn Gray and Casie Linot both added two points for the Rockets.
    Augusta's junior varsity boys team got a big 65-40 victory against the Rockets. Cole Howerton scored a team-high 15 points, and Cody Wesbrooks also was in double-figure scoring with 10 points for Augusta. Dustyn McEachern scored nine points. Michael Albright, Aydan Patterson and Logan Weakley all scored six points each. Brandon Denoncourt added five points. Chaydon Carter, Breck Winter and Josh Korthals all chipped in with two points apiece. Preston Bevan and Jayden Shryock both scored one point each.
    Augusta's freshman basketball team took a tough 60-50 loss, though the game was much closer than the score indicates. Rose Hill hit a key 3-pointer and made enough free throws down the stretch to beat the Orioles, who now are 4-5 on the season.
    Rose Hill hit eight 3-pointers in all. Austin Parker made two of them and led the Rockets with 20 points.
    Dallin Marlnee score 19 points to lead the Orioles. Jayden Reynolds added 14 points, Jake Becker had six, Kade Trebbe scored four, Daelen Shupe chipped in with three, and both Josh Reichardt and Collin Eldringhoff scored two points.
