  • EMS hoops teams take on Wellington, Ark City

  • The EMS hoops teams had a full slate this week taking on Wellington and Ark City. The 7th-grade boys traveled to Wellington and the A team lost a close game 58-51. Adam Haines led all EMS scorers with 15 points. Cameron Clausing and Quistion Wade each had 11 points. Jarin Koehler scored 10 points and Kaleb Manke added four points.
    The EMS B team lost a tough game as well, falling 21-17 to Wellington. Dylan Wittum led the B-team with seven points, Jonah Winter had five points, Braxton Taylor scored three points and Forrest Parker added two points.
    On Thursday the 7th-grade boys hosted Ark City. The A team fell in its game 52-32. Cameron Clausing led the Cats with 12 points. Adam Haines had six points, Kaleb Manke and Quistion Wade each had four points. Jarin Koehler, Braxton Taylor and Chase Veatch each had two points in the game.
    The B team lost 41-17. Jonah Winter led with six points.
    8th-grade boys
    The 8th-grade boys basketball A team dropped a hard fought game 38-29 to undefeated and league-leading Wellington. Levi Saltsman paced the Cats with 11 points. The Cats fell to 3-5 (3-2 in league play), but continued to improve. The 8th-grade boys basketball team dropped their A and B games to Ark City on Thursday. The A team lost 42-24 and the B team fell 38-22. The A team is now 3-6 (3-3) in Pioneer League play and will look to get back on track as they host Mulvane Thursday, Jan. 23.
    8th grade girls
    The 8th grade girls A-team lost to Wellington 43-11.
    "We came out and played well in the first [quarter] falling behind by eight but lost it in the 2nd quarter with turnovers," said coach Tyson Kohls.
    Leading scorers were Sydney Scanlon with six points, Channing Kimble and Abbie Edwards with two and McKenna Stewart with a point.
    The B team won its opener of the new school with a 21-19 victory over Wellington.
    "The girls played their best defense so far, holding Wellington to just six points at half and were able to make enough shots to hold off a late comeback," said Kohls. Leading scorers were Kayla Liggett with five points, Mary Micheal Gomez and Maddie Sammons with four points, Maddie Conner McKenna Stewart and Breanna Tolle all with two points.
    The B team lost 30-13 to Ark City. Leading scorers were Taylor Brock with three points, Kayla Ligget, Heather Doan, McKenna Stewart and Allyson Skillman each with two points.
    The A team lost as well 44-25.
    "We played well in the first half cutting the lead to 10 and were only outscored in the third 8-7, but the fourth quarter proved to be the toughest losing the fourth 16-8," said Kohls. Leading scorers were Sydney Scanlon with eight points, Abbie Edwards with seven points, Chelsie Meyer and Channing Kimble each with four points and Maddie Sammons with two points.
