Augusta's boys varsity bowling team started with a small lead against Buhler and Independent during Tuesday's triangular.

The Orioles picked up their play in the second game. After no one topped 200 in the first game, Chase Hallmark bowled a 234, Scott McMurphy bowled a 213 and Quentin Araize bowled a 203. Nate Kroeker wasn't far behind at 196 for a game score of 846. Augusta cruised the rest of the way to a total score of 2339 for first place.

Independent was second with a score of 2161. Buhler finished with a team score of 2039.

Araiza led the Orioles with a series of 604. McMurphy had a 591 series, Hallmark had a 571 series, Kroeker had a 510 series, Andrew Orocio finished with a 504 series and Elijah Owens had a 439 series.

On the girls side, Augusta's girls bowling team has had a slow start by its standards. The Orioles, who won last year's state championship, had a sluggish preseason tournament this past weekend. Tuesday, the Orioles had a few games of brilliance on way to an easy 2022-1761 win against Buhler.

Senior Bethany Watson led the Orioles with a 610 series and tied for a game-high 212 with Katy Nordman. Nordman was second on the team with a 520 series. Madison Marcotte bowled a 487.
