The USD 490 Board of Education gave its approval to move ahead with plans for a storage building at the new middle school during their meeting Monday evening.
David Stewart, with PKHLS Architects, presented the board with a schematic floor plan where they had done a quick form study and sketch to add the storage to the existing middle school model.
The addition would include restroom facilities, storage area and overhang for a covered area for picnic tables. It would be placed between the northeast corner of the building and the new track.
The board gave its consent to move forward with the project and PKHLS will begin working with Nabholz Construction on it. It will be brought back to the board as a change order for the middle school project.
In other business, the board approved accepting the audit report for the district.
Norm Wilks, director of fiscal services, said they have met the Kansas Municipal Audit Guide and is compliant with those provisions.
"The auditors say their opinion is the information in the district record is fairly stated," Wilks said.
One concern continues to be there are not enough people to divide everything up, but Wilks said the auditors realized that is a problem and would have a financial impact.
"It will be more segregated than it has been in the past," he said.
Another concern the auditors continue to have is the district doesn't prepare the financial statements.
"I think it is a huge advantage of our auditors actually preparing those statements so it is a double check against our financial records," Wilks continued.
He said for federal purposes the audit is acceptable as well.
