A Wind Advisory will be in effect in Butler County from 11:00 this morning until 6:00 this evening. Strong northwest winds averaging 30 mph are expected to assault the area, with gusts to 40 mph possible.
Our Grassland Fire Danger is forecasted to reach the "Very High" category around noon, peaking in the "Extreme" category by mid-afternoon, particularly in the western portions of our county. Currently, we are nestled up against the edge of a Red Flag Warning (exceptionally dangerous fire conditions), which encompasses Sedgwick County, Sumner County, Harvey County, and points west.
The combination of warm temps (around 50 degrees), stout winds, and dry grasses could cause any grass fires to spread out of control very quickly. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged today and any fires that do crop up should be reported quickly. Be safe… and help keep your neighbors and our firefighters safe!
