2014. New Year. New resolutions. New opportunities.
This year, I challenge us… to think Downtown Augusta! Let’s make it a point to shop local, think local, volunteer local and support our local businesses.
Do you ever need a last-minute hot, fresh meal for the family? Go see Rob Mercer at Mercy Barbeque (across from City Hall) for eat-in or quick takeout or run by the soon-to-reopen Miller’s Five Drive-In and get some burgers and fries.
When it’s time to order cakes and cookies, get a hot breakfast or take some homemade fresh bread home to the family – drop in and talk to Cynthia at the Brick Street Bake Shoppe.
Need a pair of shoes or purse? Visit our longest-running retail shop, Strickler’s, and Tom will set you up. How about those future mowing needs? Go see Joe at Augusta Saw and Mower.
Or make it an afternoon and visit our charming retail shops:
Cooper Drug Store
Brick Street Flower Company
Fairchild Interiors and Designs (across from the Post Office)
Pigeon’s Roost Antique Mall
And for great family fun, go see Austin Ottaway at the newly-reopened and refurbished Holiday Bowl, catch a current hit movie at Augusta’s Historic Theatre, or visit the Augusta Historical Museum.
Besides these shops, you’ll find hair salons, doctors’ offices, the Showroom (need tile, wood or carpet installed?) and a host of service industries from insurance to real estate. There are too many to list, but all will take care of you. These businesses are part of our community and give back to our community. So…for 2014, let’s support our downtown!
