Individuals in Butler County with developmental/intellectual disabilities will have the option to take part in five social activities in the first half of 2014, all held by Creative Community Living.
They include a valentine dance, nail-painting party, gardening activity, petting zoo and big boy toys.
A grant from the CDDO of Butler County will cover all expenses, so there is no cost to participate. All activities will be at Creative Community Living’s day center at Sixth and Haverhill Road in El Dorado. Attendance at each activity will be limited to 50 people.
The first activity will be the Valentine dance from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 8. Each individual will receive a corsage or boutonniere. A deejay from Augusta will provide the music. Guests may dress up or wear whatever is most comfortable for them. Light refreshments will be served.
The next event, the nail-painting party, will be aladies’ night out from 6 to 8 p.m. March 5. Each guest will have her nails painted and can take a bottle of polish home with her.
Next up will be a gardening activity from 4 to 6 p.m. April 23. Each person will plant something seasonal in a pot to take home. It may be a flowering plant or herbs, depending on what is available.
4 Points Petting Zoo of Augusta will provide four animals from 10 a.m. to noon on May 17. Guests may pet and brush the animals and may also feed the animals at the end if they bring quarters. Each person will receive a stuffed animal to keep.
The final event is big boy toys. This men’s day out will be from 10 a.m. to noon on June 7 next door to CCL at Murphy Oil Co. Guests can view and touch a big truck, fire truck, tractor and scooter. Each person gets to take home two Hot Wheels vehicles.
These special events will be opportunities for people who are at least 10 years of age to make friends and have fun. Some activities will also be educational. The main thing to remember is attendance at each event will be limited to the first 50 people to sign up. Organizers hope there will be a good mix of individuals supported by various agencies as well as those who receive no services. If the person needs an attendant, he or she should bring someone along.
To sign up for any of these activities, contact Amber Crowl at (620) 221-9431 ext. 243 or email@example.com. Those who sign up in time and then realize they can’t attend are asked to let Crowl know so someone else may participate.
