The first baby of the new year didn't come until Jan. 3 this year.
Scott and Staci Rickard welcomed a son, Case Stephen, at 1:39 p.m. Friday. He weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce and measured 19 3/4 inches.
Case was actually not due until Jan. 12, so they weren't really expecting a New Year's baby.
"I think we had an idea that he might come early, but not this early," said Staci.
This was Staci's first child, and Scott's second.
"It was amazing," she said, adding that she was relieved when the birth was finally over.
She had checked into the hospital at 9 Saturday morning.
"We were looking forward to having another one," Staci said of their second son.
"It was just amazing," Scott said of his newest family member. "It was a miracle."
Case's older brother, Cole, who is 7, also was excited about his new little brother. He enjoyed holding his brother in the hospital room and said he was looking forward to teaching him a lot of things, especially to play football.
Scott is the assistant city engineer for the city of El Dorado and Staci will be a stay-at-home mother with her children.
