  • El Dorado Baseball HoF announces 2014 inductees

  • The El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the latest members to be inducted at their banquet on January 18, 2014 at 5:30 P.M. at the El Dorado Civic Center, 201 E. Central. The 2014 class is highlighted by longtime Major League player and Wichita native Daryl Spencer. Spencer is being inducted as the coach of Coors of Kansas which played their home games in El Dorado from 1976-1978.
    Also highlighting the inductees is former Wichita State player and current manager of the Wichita Wingnuts, Kevin Hooper. Hooper is being inducted as the shortstop for the 1998 El Dorado Broncos NBC World Series Champions.
    Butler Community College is inducting two players. One is current Andover High School baseball coach Chris Weidert. Weidert was an All Region VI pitcher and helped lead the Grizzlies to their first appearance in the Junior College World Series in 1994.
    The other is Scott Dreiling. Dreiling was All-Jayhawk Conference and All Region VI in 1991 when he went 12-0 on the mound and set what is still a school record for wins in a season.
    The El Dorado High School inductee is pitcher Clint Merrick. Merrick posted a school record 8-0 mark his senior year and went on to pitch for Butler County and K-State.
    The featured speaker will be Wichita State University baseball coach, Todd Butler. Master of ceremonies will be El Dorado native and long-time Augusta resident, Steve Gillies who is a previous inductee and member of the Board of Directors.
    Seating is limited and reservations are required. You can make a reservation by calling the El Dorado Recreation Department at 316-321-9100. Admission price is $15 for adults and $10 for high-school age and younger. There will be a social preceding the banquet starting at 5 p.m. Following the banquet will be another social as well as tours of the El Dorado Baseball Hall of Fame Museum located just a block away at McDonald Stadium.
