Augusta's boys basketball team ran into a brick wall against Andale Friday night.

Coach David Stephenson said the Orioles didn't compete the way he would've like to see as they took a rough 53-28 loss to the Indians, their first loss of the season.

Augusta was cold from the floor all night. Stephenson said the Orioles missed several open layups after getting stop in the third quarter to try and climb back into it. The Orioles didn't help their cause when they fell behind 19-2 to start the contest as they couldn't match Andale's physicality.

Augusta's girls basketball team, however, got off to a hot start. The Orioles grabbed six offensive rebounds in the first quarter and built up a big lead. But coach Tracy Anderson said the Orioles had a lapse that allowed Andale to crawl within a point before halftime. The Indians used a similar burst to break a late tie and run away with a 53-42 win.

Augusta will resume practices Dec. 27 and return to action when it travels to take on Winfield Friday, Jan. 3.
