Monday night's middle school girls basketball games against Andover were a complete success for Augusta, which has started the season on a hot streak.
The 8th-grade A girls defeated Andover 53-38. Jayden Austin scored 14 points. Madison Wheeler and Teresa Steinkamp both scored 11 points apiece. Kylie McDaniel scored 10 points. Coach Jamie VanDever said it might be the first time he's ever had four players in double-digit scoring. The Bluejays remain undefeated on the season with a 5-0 record. They play Haysville tonight.
The 8th-grade B team is also undefeated at 5-0 after beating Andover 32-14. Jordan Curry, who led the team with 19 points. outscored Andover on her own.
In 7th-grade action, the A team dominated Andover by a score of 32-10. Jayden Marlnee led the charge with 13 points. The team is 4-1 on the season. The 7th-grade B team blew out Andover 42-2. Abbee Rhodes scored 16 to lead Augusta. VanDever said the Bluejays' B teams have outscored opponents by a whopping 339-79 margin so far this season.
Thursday's game will be the final games until the students return to school after winter break.
