Circle's boys basketball team took it to Augusta in the first half of Tuesday night's rival basketball game.

Circle both outrebounded Augusta 12-7 and scored eight second-chance points in the first quarter. Kaden Fowler came off the bench to provide a spark for the Thunderbirds by attacking the rim and scoring 13 first-half points as Circle led 37-26 at halftime.

Augusta came alive in the third quarter. The Orioles scored three baskets in the opening 43 seconds of the third quarter, two of which came off steals, and outscored Circle 42-20 in the second half on way to a 70-59 home victory.

Kyler Steinkamp and Sean Brandenburg each had a quick steal and a layup to spark an 11-2 run in the third quarter. Brandon Smith and Tristan Finch both scored off Oriole steals during the run.

Augusta outrebounded Circle 21-14 in the second half. The Orioles' defense slowed down the inside game of Garrett Cannon - who finished with eight points after scoring six in the first quarter - and held Fowler scoreless in the second half.

The Orioles had a 14-2 late run to seal the win. Dustyn McEachern had a dish to Brandenburg, and Steinkamp hit Tristan Finch with a backdoor pass for an easy layup.

Finch and Connor Hurst combined to score the Orioles' final eight points.

Augusta (3-0, 1-0 AVCTL Div. IV) will play at Andale for a tough road test Friday night.
