  • Earlier this year the State of Kansas passed the Kansas Roofing Registration Act requiring all roofing contractors to be registered with the state before engaging in any roofing project.
There has been a one year grace period that ends Jan. 1. By law, the City of Augusta will no longer issue roofing permits to roofing contractors that do not have a state registration certificate.
It is extremely important a homeowner make sure the roofer they are hiring to reroof their home has this certificate. If the contractor is found to be working without this certificate, they will be required to stop all work on the roof until they acquire the certificate from the Attorney General’s office – a process that takes several weeks.
If a homeowner has any questions as to whether the roofer has the right permits, he or she should call the Inspection Department at 316-775-4505 or he or she can go to kansas.gov and look for the contractors who have registered.
