Augusta's boys basketball team got a huge win in Abilene Friday night, beating the Cowboys 63-55. The win for Augusta snapped a 22-game home winning streak for Abilene.
Sean Brandenburg scored a game-high 21 points. He hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 of Augusta's 19 points during the third quarter to spark a big Oriole run. Brandenburg finished with four 3s.
"His ability to step out and hit a shot when a big guy is guarding him is huge," coach David Stephenson said of Brandenburg.
Connor Hurst added 17 points for the Orioles. Brandon Smith scored 12.
Stephenson said that Smith and Brandenburg came down with huge rebounds in the fourth quarter to help the Orioles seal the win as Abilene had to foul down the stretch.
"It was a huge win," Stephenson said. "Beating Abilene isn't our end goal, but it was a big win."
Dustyn McEachern had five points for the Orioles. Kyler Steinkamp scored four points and both Cole Howerton and Tristan Finch had two points.
Augusta (2-0) returns home to play Circle Tuesday night.
