  • Circle sweeps Independent at T-bird Classic

  • Circle junior Katelynn Wilson had the hot hand early during the first game of the T-bird Classic basketball tournament.
    Wilson drained three 3-pointers and finished the first half with 17 points to lead Circle to a 26-16 halftime lead. But Wilson did not return in the second half after injuring her hand.
    The rest of the T-birds picked up the slack. Katie Frankenbury scored nine of her 14 points in the second half to help Circle finish off Wichita Independent 52-34.
    Circle held off Independent despite only going 12-for-26 from from the free throw line. Independent only had one double-digit quarter against Circle's tough defense.
    Leah Metzger scored five points for the T-birds. Talia Highbarger and Reagan Wilson both made one basket and two free throws for their four points apiece. Lexee Bruendl scored three points. Caylie Kifer and Allyssa Kirkham both scored two points and Taylor Walls scored one.
    Circle boys beat Panthers in nailbiter
    Circle senior Dylan Driver scored a game-high 30 points and carried the T-birds to a 71-68 victory against Independent. Driver scored 15 of Circle's 20 fourth-quarter points. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Driver hit 10 baskets, one of which was a 3-pointer, and made all nine free throws for the game.
    Paul Richard also hit double-digit scoring for Circle with 13 points. Kaden Fowler scored eight, Braden Kirkpatrick added six, Garrett Cannon had four, Trey Davis had three while Patrick Oshakuade, Justin Wright and Jake Smith all added two points apiece. Brendon Horyna added one.
