  • For four seasons, players on Douglass' volleyball team have had the voice of Kayleigh Roberts ingrained in their mind.
That's because Roberts, the Bulldogs' libero, is vocal and is good at communicating on the court. Allen County Community College liked her leadership and playing skills enough to recruit her. Roberts signed a letter of intention Wednesday to join Allen County next school year.
"They have my major, and I really like the coach, I like the school," Roberts said of why she chose Allen County. "It's a small school. It's kind of what I'm used to."
Roberts said she plans on earning a degree in athletic training.
Roberts earned All-Central Plains League Honorable Mention this past season for the Bulldogs, who advanced to the Class 3A state tournament. Roberts was an intregal part of the Bulldogs' defense, which makes the rest of their system go.
"She does a great job of talking non-stop and being loud, and that's important for setters and liberos especially to be a talker," Douglass coach Leanna Braddy said. "She's constantly telling them the little things that maybe most people wouldn't understand."
For Roberts, she has loved the sport of volleyball since the sixth grade and is excited to continue her playing career.
"I expect it to be a lot more fun," Roberts said. "I'm excited to play competitively and go out there and win."
Her parents are Janet and Gary Roberts.
