Dorothy June Foster Lappan Malcolm, 87, passed away Dec. 2, 2013 in Lee Summit, Mo. Celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 7, 2013, at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
Dorothy was born June 4, 1926 in El Dorado, the daughter Lloyd and Myrtle Foster. She married the love of her life, Richard L. Lappan on April 24, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo. He passed away on Sept. 9, 1961. Dorothy was remarried to Bill Malcolm on June 6, 1964 in El Dorado.
Dorothy was a caring spirit who loved her family passionately. She was a strong woman and always said "You have to play the hand life deals you." She will be remembered for her laughter and her infectious smile. One of the last things she said was "One day I will get out of this bed and dance a jig." No doubt she and dad are doing just that!
Survivors include: children, Richard Lappan of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Shanks, Doretha Byrd both of Evansville, Ind., Susie Schulte of Lees Summit, Mo. and Sherri Cook of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Ida Mae Waite and Juanita Hawks both of El Dorado, and Alma Hale of Moore, Okla.; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
