  • Ret. Msgt. Roy E. Carter, 76, of Leavenworth, joined his heavenly father, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, it was a glorious sunny day and he was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

  • Ret. Msgt. Roy E. Carter, 76, of Leavenworth, joined his heavenly father, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, it was a glorious sunny day and he was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Roy was born April 2, 1937, in Columbia, Mo. the son of Arthur R. and Helen (Davis) Carter. He was the 6th of 10 children.
Mr. Carter graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1955. He was President of his Senior Class. In 1959, he joined the United States Army. He began his military career in Ft. Lee, Va. He was stationed Ft. Campbell, Ky., Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., two tours in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the military Roy went to work at Troop Issue Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.
He enjoyed cooking, hunting, bowling, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren He was loved by all.
Roy is survived by his wife, Sherrylin(Robinson) Carter of 25 years; a daughter, Carol Carter of Lawrence Kan.; two stepchildren, Dianna Robinson and Michael Frison of Leavenworth, Kan.; four grandchildren, Princeton Carter of Kansas City, Kan., Dominique Tutt of Columbia, S.C., Lauren Epperson of Lawrence, Kan., Adin Robinson of Leavenworth, Kan.; a sister, Mrs.Bonnie Leater of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; six brothers, Gene A. Carter and William L. Carter of Columbia, Mo., George (Betty) Carter of Kansas city, Kan., Robert (Beverly) Carter of Hudson, Fla., Hubert H. (Virginia) Carter of Ontario, Calif. and James A. (Deborah) Carter of La Palma, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Sadie Robinson; three brother-in-laws, Bill (Ava), Teddy and Sylvester Robinson all of Leavenworth, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marion Brownlee Carter of Carson, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marcelle Dubois; a sister, Joanna
Carter Herndon; and a brother, Aaron M. Carter.
Visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the Independent Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30.
