A look at El Dorado's past



Butler County Sheriff’s offices have recetly seen a great increase in accidents earlier than is typically seen with the coming holidays. Wednesday afternoon hosted a three-car non-inury accident on the Walnut River bridge east of El Dorado.

A two-car non-inury accident occurred on Nov. 22nd. Several cars had gone over the low-water bridge located 2 ½ miles north then west and south of Douglas and were swept off the bridge into the fast-moving creek. There was a rumor that there was a third car that was swept from the bridge, but it was unconfirmed.

At least 27 Kanas high school football players reach the lofty 1,000 yard plauteau in offense during 1973 regular season play.



The out of court settlement which could bring slightly more than 1 million dollars to a 13 year old El Dorado youth critically injured in an accident on an oil rig in June of 1982 was approved in Butler County District Court this morning. The mother of the victim was represented by El Dorado attorney Norman Manley. The settlement was considered fair and reasonable.

The streets of El Dorado are going to light up this year at Christmas time. Volunteers from the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, AMA electric, KG&E, and the Chamber of Commerce worked together to string about 2,000 feet of the new Christmas lights across the tops of buildings lining the downtown intersection of Central and Main. About 34 businesses in the city are also taking part in the decorating.

The Butler County Community College football team has wrapped up the football season by winning the Roaring Ranger Bowl against Ranger Community College in Ranger, Texas. Butler took the trophy home after their 21-11 win.



An investigation is continuing in the apparent murder on Nov. 6 of a Wichita man in Southern Butler County. The body was found shortly after 6 a.m. by two hunters on a county road south of Augsuta and northwest of Grodon near the Whitewater River. An autopsy showed the man died of a gunshot wound.

The El Dorado High Forensics group is honored with two national awards; the Leading Chapter award and the 200 Club Certification by the National Forensics League.

Members of the El Dorado School of Karate are competing in the Super Grand National Worlds Games IV which began on Thursday in New Orleans. The school is representing El Dorado and the entire Midwest and ages rage from 5 and under to adult men and women.
