Dr. Mack H. McCormick will be laid to rest at Bella Vista Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. He was born Jan. 1, 1921 and passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013.
Dr. McCormick was a local El Dorado native son who fought in WWII as a U.S. Marine, seeing action in the South Pacific campaigns. Upon returning from the war, Dr. McCormick attended Kansas University and the University of Illinois where he received his Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Bio-Chemistry.
Mack joined Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1950. Dr. McCormick is credited with the discovery and development if the antibiotic Vancomycin, which is still in use today.
He is survived by: two sons, Mack Jr. and Charles; seven grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He will be missed.
