The faces around the Augusta City Council Chambers are changing rapidly.
The governing body welcomed new City Manager Gabe Gonzales who took his official oath of office Monday night. He began working in Augusta on Nov. 12.
Josh Shaw assumed the role of assistant city manager after serving the city well as interim city manager for the past several months.
In addition, Ward 2 residents will soon have a new representative. Michael Wallace stepped down effective immediately at the end of Monday’s meeting.
Wallace has struggled to be in attendance due to responsibilities away from the council.
Wallace is an officer in the Kansas Army National Guard. He indicated those duties have been pulling him away and will “demand his full attention” in the future.
Before stepping down, Wallace mentioned Myrna Rogers as a possible replacement because she serves on the city’s parks board and also helped secure a grant for new playground equipment for Garvin Park.
No action was taken Monday on any replacement. The governing body is expected to set a course of action to fill the immediate vacancy at their first meeting in December.
