The Rotary Club of El Dorado made visits to all of the elementary schools in El Dorado last week to hand out dictionaries to third graders.
Their first stop was at Circle’s Oil Hill Elementary School.
Before handing out the dictionaries, Sue Givens, USD 490 superintendent and Rotary member, talked about their club with the students.
“Rotary Club is a service organization,” she said. “That means we find ways to help the community. One way is to give every third grader a dictionary.”
The front of the dictionary includes a place for the students to write their names.
Givens also pointed out at the bottom of that page was a book plate that has the Rotary 4-Way Test, which states: “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
Givens said they think that test is a good way to live one’s life.
“Always ask yourself, am I being truthful and am I thinking about what is best for everyone,” she told the students. “We want to give you these dictionaries and want you to remember the four-way test.”
