Asking for a fair and reasonable rate for those we serve
To the Times-Gazette:
We are writing this letter out of concern for the proposed water rate increase to be voted on by the El Dorado City Commission on Monday, November 18, 2013 and how it will impact thousands of individuals, families, farmers, ranchers, small businesses and cities that are served by Rural Water Districts in Butler County.
The proposed 4% rate increase for City of El Dorado users and with the elimination of the tier two rate (cheaper rate for water sold over 30,000 cubic feet or 224,400 gallons), will result in an approximate 15% increase for rural water users, including surrounding cities that get their water from rural water districts. The tier two has been for large water users. Rural Water Districts are not actually water “users”, but are wholesale water suppliers and distributors.
Rural water districts are also charged an additional 1.75 to 2.00 times the in-town rate. Butler County Rural Water Districts have paid well over $503,000.00 in this last year for this additional charge above the El Dorado customer rate.
The Rural Water Districts in Butler County appreciate the working partnership with the City of El Dorado to be able to provide quality water to citizens in the rural areas. We are asking for a fair and reasonable rate for those we serve.
