Local youth earned top honors at the 81st Kansas Junior Livestock Show
Several local youth earned top honors at the 81st Kansas Junior Livestock Show.
The show, which was held in September in Wichita, included a total of 716 Kansas youth from 89 counties, who exhibited 1,457 head of livestock.
Barrett Simon from Leon took the champion senior cattle showman title. Simon also placed fifth in class 8 - Charolais Market Steer.
Haleigh Borg of Towanda placed 11th in class 5 - Commercial Doe Kid.
From El Dorado, Sam Colangelo placed ninth in class 5 - Meat Goat; Addison Gauthier placed second in class 32 - Simmental Breeding Heifer; Colton Gauthier placed fourth and sixth in class 41 - Maine Tainer Breeding Heifer, Courtney Jackson placed 12th in class 5 - Meat Goat, D.J. Jackson placed 15th in class 5 - Meat Goat and Roman Merck placed ninth in class 15 - Meat Goat.
From Rose Hill, Elliot Merck placed in 11th in class 10 - Meat Goat and sixth in class 5 - Commercial Doe Kid, and Roman Merck placed ninth in class 14 - Meat Goat.
From Douglass, Brandy Rigg placed ninth in class 15 - Meat Goat and Brian Rigg placed 12th in class 13 - Meat Goat.
The show is sponsored by the Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas State University and the Agri-Business Council of Wichita.
In addition, dozens of volunteers helped to put on the annual show.
