  • It has been a tough month for students in the Augusta and Circle school districts.
Accidents and medical conditions have taken the lives of a handful of students from the middle and high schools.
“We have experienced the loss of several of our precious family members and friends and with it has come a sense of the need to come together as a community,” said First Baptist Church Youth Pastor Dick Smith. “There is a real heaviness among the students.”
“Hope Rising” will be on Wednesday night in the First Baptist Church Gym, 1501 State St. in Augusta.
The event will begin at 6:15 p.m. with free pizza and pop. At 6:45 p.m. there will be music and a time of worship followed by a message from Chris Waipa from Wichita.
Several churches in Augusta, Douglass and Rose Hill are coming together as well as Augusta High School and Douglass FCA.
Everyone is invited: students, parents, families and anyone who would like to be a part of this one night gathering.
“We have God to help us through struggles like this,” Smith said. “But not everyone knows that.”
Lowery said he was excited to host an event like this in a gymnasium.
“It will be a great environment in the gym,” Lowery said. “No matter where you go to church, or if you go at all, it is somewhere that you can feel comfortable and enjoy yourself.”
Call Smith at 316-619-4813 or Lowery 316-734-8497 for more information.
“This is a family event –not just a youth event,” Smith said. “We really wanted to come together to help out in this difficult time.”
