Turkey Dynasty is the theme of the 21st Annual ThanksLiving Banquet and Silent Auction of Central Kansas Prison Ministry, which will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. This banquet is open to the pastors, congregations and the public.
This year, there are a mix of speakers and guests. As always, volunteers who have been involved in Central Kansas Prison Ministry, will be recognized for five years, 10 years, 15 years and 20 years of service.
Helping present the awards will be Kansas Secretary of Corrections (KDOC) Ray Roberts and the El Dorado Correctional Facility chaplains.
The program evening theme is being presented by Curt Harris, Kansas State Turkey Calling champion. The banquet hall will be decorated with camouflage items and part of the silent auction will be a Winchester Diamond Grade 101 Skeet double-barrel shotgun. Due to regulations of the KDOC, since some prison ministry volunteers have been former inmates, the shotgun will not be at the auction, but adequate verification and photographs will be present.
Also selling in the auction is an autographed football by K-State Coach Bill Snyder. Other memorabilia and great items will be auctioned.
People are encouraged to bring their turkey caller for the contest, bring a couple of covered dish - even turkey, wear camouflaged clothing - if they choose, invite friends, family and church. This is a community opportunity for people to experience prison ministry volunteerism.
A person’s ticket is: two dishes for a covered dish dinner beginning at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 315 W. Central, El Dorado. To RSVP, call 316-733-1537 or email email@example.com. Those who wish to participate just in the Silent Auction and not the banquet can come to the program around 7:30.
