  • WINFIELD - The Rose Hill Rockets and Winfield Vikings waited more than two hours before getting Tuesday night's playoff game started after lightning in rainy conditions delayed the game two hours.
In a sloppy, low-scoring game, it was a fumbled snap that led to a safety and the decisive two points as Winfield rallied from a 12-0 deficit to beat Rose Hill 14-12.
Both teams struggled to handle the ball in the wet conditions. There were a handful of fumbles by halftime, and both teams had negative yardage early on.
Rose Hill quarterback Brett Bonar got the Rockets on the scoreboard first in the second quarter with a 12-yard touchdown. After a missed PAT, the Rockets led 6-0.
The Rockets seemed to take control after Garrett Forsberg scored on a pick-six touchdown for a 12-0 Rose Hill lead.
But Winfield kept grinding its way back in. The Vikings scored two rushing touchdowns, but also missed both tries, to tie the game 12-12 before the late safety gave them the go-ahead score.
Rose Hill, which had beaten Winfield earlier this season for its first win under coach Ray Boese, had one desparation drive come well short.
The Rockets finish the season 4-6.
