  •  On Friday, the Sonic Drive-In in El Dorado closed temporarily for a significant remodel.
The location will be closed approximately three months while construction is underway with a tentative opening date of Feb. 1.
The renovated Sonic Drive-In will include a new drive-thru window, new ordering technology, new equipment, a new kitchen design and an overall refresh to deliver a better Sonic experience to the local community.
“This specific location is a very popular one in the area, and we aim to get it open again as soon as possible,” said Jerry Bruce, Sonic Drive-In general manager. “There are rumors that this location is closing for good, and that’s absolutely not the case. We will be reopening before you know it with a new and improved drive-in that will allow us to employ more people and better serve this community that has been so supportive for so long.”
More than 10 current Sonic employees and managers – representing about 44 percent of the original Sonic crew – will be working in a different Sonic Drive-In while renovations are underway. Following the re-opening, Sonic will be hiring 35 to 50 employees to staff the renovated location.
Long-time Sonic general managers Jerry and Vicki Bruce will continue to lead the team as they have for the past 26 years upon reopening.
The general contractor for the renovations is Danny Slusser, President of Danco, a construction company based nearby in Wichita.
The renovations will modify this long-standing drive-in with technology and design updates just like those found in brand new Sonic Drive-In locations.
