  • It's the question of American Horror Story: Coven's season of the witch: Who should replace Fiona (Jessica Lange) as the new Supreme?
According to the show's mythology, each generation has a Supreme, a witch with stronger and more varied powers than her peers. Fiona's predecessor as Supreme, whom she killed, was able to perform the so-called Seven Wonders. How much do you want to bet that one of them is conjuring fire? Fiona became very wary of Madison (Emma Roberts) when she found out that she unwittingly, spontaneously torched the neighbor's drapes. Executive producer Ryan Murphy teases that Fiona's successor won't be revealed until the end of the season, so which witch will it be?
Is there too much death on American Horror Story?
In the meantime, who do you think should take Fiona's place? TVGuide.com weighs the options:
Zoe (Taissa Farmiga)For her: She's the newest addition to the class at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. We've already learned that she has the power to literally screw someone to death. What else can she do?Against her: The retiring Zoe isn't exactly leadership material. Also, at the moment, she's too focused on her Franken-boyfriend (Evan Peters) to develop any new powers.
Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe)For her: She's descended from the first black witch in Salem, which could make her a threat to both sides in the inevitable war between witchcraft and voodoo. Controlling the Salem coven would certainly appeal to Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett), no? Against her: Sidibe doesn't appear in the show's opening credits, which may indicate that she won't be around until the end of the season.American Horror Story: Coven brings Frankenstein alive with very weird love story
Page 2 of 2 - Nan (Jamie Brewer)For her: Clairvoyant Nan is the second most powerful of the young witches (after polymath Madison). Mind-reading is one hell of an upper hand in any battle.Against her: Her power makes it difficult for her to be around large groups (all those voices!). Could she handle an entire coven's worth?
Cordelia (Sarah Paulson)For her: Sure, she's older, but her mother, the current Supreme, has pointedly said that her daughter has never lived up to her potential. What if her infertility struggles help her tap into her powerful bloodline? (Paulson has said that her story line would get "significantly darker.")Against her: Put simply: She doesn't really seem to want it.
Madison (Emma Roberts)For her: Executive producer Brad Falchuk has already teased that Madison isn't exactly dead-dead. (No surprise there: With resurrection-happy Misty Day [Lily Rabe] hanging around, anything is possible.) Her multiple powers -- the fire, the levitation of objects (and buses!) -- are hard to ignore.Against her: Would the show really reveal Fiona's true successor this early in the season? Doubtful.
