Senior standout Brenda McCollum of Bluestem High School signed a letter of intent to run for Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. McCollum will receive a scholarship to compete for the cross country team next fall as well as the track team.
She also received an academic scholarship for the school.
McCollum will major in biology to become a veterinarian. McCollum is Bluestem's current record holder in the 4K in cross country with a time of 15 minutes, 16 seconds. She also holds the track record in the 3200-meter race with a time of 12:00. She earned state medals in both events.
Last summer McCollum also competed with the USA Race Walking Team in the Junior Pan Am Cup in Guatemala, where she placed ninth, and in the USA v. Canada Race Walk Match, where she placed third.
