CLEARWATER—Augusta's top runners for the cross country teams have been consistent all season. Thursday at the AVCTL-Div. IV meet in Clearwater was no different.
Four Augusta cross country runners earned All-League honors after placing in the top 14. Brand Forsythe earned First Team All-League honors for the boys team after placing fifth with a time of 18 minutes, 19.09 seconds.
Seniors Kassidy Thompson and Cassidy Hartup earned Second Team All-League honors for the girls. Thompson took 10th place with a time of 17:26.59. Hartup was just two spots behind her in 12th with a time of 18:06.81. Hartup also earned All-League honors last year for Augusta.
Jacob Hall was just one place away from earning First Team , but still came away with Second Team All-League honors after taking eighth with a time of 18:25.90.
Forsythe and Hall were keys for the boys team, which had a goal at the beginning of the season to take second place or better at the league meet. The Orioles accomplished that goal by taking second in the team standings. Their team average was 19:23.11, which was 6 seconds better than Clearwater, which settled for third place. Andale won the team title with a 18:06.39 average.
"We had a very good day. I am proud of the efforts of all our team members," Oriole coach Steve Reichardt said. "It is great to have four all league team members and to have the boys team place second.
Cody Wesbrooks was third for the Orioles with a 16th-place finish (19:39.00). Matthew Canedy was two places behind in 18th (19:53.22). Preston Bevan (20:38.31), Wright Bosley (20:46.18) and Josh Moore (20:49.97) took 28th, 29th and 30th, respectively.
Sarah Linder took 21st (18:54.31), Sydney Williams finished 25th (19:35.22), senior Bailey Reichardt (20:18.38) was 27th, Hannah Todd (20:23.31) was 28th and Payton Nusz (20:32.44) was 29th for the Orioles.
Circle girls win team title
Allison Derry won the individual league championship in the girls race with a first-place time of 15:54.94 for the Circle Thunderbirds. Spencer Jacobson took third (16:81.31), Keagan Davis took eighth (17:13.44) and Savana Gutierrez took 11th (17:39.75 for the T-birds, who won the girls team title.
Circle's boys team had two All-Leaguers. Jonam Gibbs took seventh (18:25.31) for First Team honors, and Noah Stewart (19:20.46) took 14th for Second Team honors.
Augusta and Circle will compete at the El Dorado Class 4A Regional Oct. 26 at the El Dorado Lake-Bluestem Point. The girls race at 2 p.m. and the boys follow at 2:30. The top three teams and top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team (with possibility of more) will compete at State.
