The West Zion Mennonite Church Concert Series continues with an event on Sunday evening, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. The concert will include performances by Kenneth Rodgers, organ; the Sunflower Trio, a chamber music group featuring voice, violin and keyboard; Open Road, a men’s a capella ensemble; and Donna Stucky, piano.

Kenneth Rodgers is a music professor at Hesston College and is an active collaborative pianist, organist and choral director in the area.

The Sunflower Trio is comprised of Matthew Schloneger, tenor; Rebecca Schloneger, violin; and Kenneth Rodgers, keyboard. The group was formed in 2002 and is dedicated to the performance of chamber music for voice, violin and keyboard in a variety of styles. Matthew Schloneger is active as a tenor soloist for oratorio and opera performances. Rebecca Schloneger is a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, as well as director of Suzuki Violin at Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts. The Schlonegers also are professors in the music department of Hesston College, Hesston.

Open Road is an a capella men’s ensemble from Bethel College, made up of Bethel College Concert Choir singers. Open Road was formed in the 2000-2001 academic year as an informal group of men who enjoyed singing together several times a week. They now have an established regular rehearsal and concert schedule. As seniors graduate, Open Road adds new members to the ensemble. More than 30 singers have participated in this group over the years. Current members include: Cody Claassen, Matthew Graber, Riley King, Ben Kreider, Carl Lehman, Chase Stucky, Taylor Stucky, Aaron Tschetter and Braden Unruh.

Donna Stucky is a retired public school music teacher who is a lifelong member of West Zion Mennonite Church, where she is a service organist/pianist and leads the Chancel Choir.

There is no admission charge to attend, although a free-will offering will be received during the concert to help this concert series continue. After the concert, there will be a time of fellowship with refreshments being served. West Zion Mennonite Church is located at 101 S. Washington Avenue, Moundridge.
