  • Community members and Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital supporters filled the Clifford Stone room at the Butler Community College Welcome Center for the hospital’s Gala III Friday evening.
Following a cocktail hour and time to look at the auction items and visit, everyone was welcomed by Keri Myers, SBA director of development.
“In our community we don’t have to walk alone,” she said. “We have a very caring, supportive community. Part of that is a hospital which provides great care.”
She went on to introduce Dr. Kimberly Krull, the president at Butler, who welcomed everyone to campus.
“We really are delighted to be able to host the hospital Gala,” she said. “SBA has been an amazing partner for a long, long time for Butler Community College.”
She said the hospital supports Butler’s nursing program, hires their graduates and provides scholarships.
Myers then introduced Bob Lane, saying he is someone who has had a profound impact on the community, and Lane introduced the entertainment for the evening, Maurice LoMonaco, from Naples, Fla.
“Maurice enjoys entertaining and helping good causes,” Lane said.
LoMonaco sang a number of songs, then several recognitions were made.
SBA President and CEO Gayle Arnett began by welcoming everyone.
“We are what we think is a great part of our fine community,” she said. “We are our friends and neighbors taking care of friends and neighbors.”
    She recognized the hospital administration.
“It took many, many people to make tonight happen, as it takes to make every day happen at SBA,” Arnett said.
She also recognized the medical staff in attendance.
“These are my heroes,” she said. “I could tell you stories all night about the things they do and their dedication. They drop things at the drop of a hat to go help someone in our community.”
Next Vince Haines, SBA Board of Trustees chair, recognized the board members and thanked everyone for coming before a special announcement was made.
Attorney Jim Hargrove announced the presentation of a check for $25,000 unrestricted funds for the SBA Foundation. He said this was one of the best things they get to do once in a while is to call someone and say “I have a check for you.”
He encouraged everyone to think about SBA when doing their estate planning.
The evening concluded with a live auction and more entertainment by LoMonaco.
