Coach Monty Rowland said that Augusta's boys soccer team put together one of its best defensive matches of the season on way to a 1-0 win at Winfield Monday evening in a makeup game
Mason Hiser scored the match's lone goal with about 10 minutes left in the first half after Brandon Denoncourt made an assist off a quick start deep in Winfield's territory.
"Boys played well, defense played well," Rowland said. "All the way around, I was pleased."
The Orioles won without Corbin Murry, who will be out the remainder of the season (medical reasons). Kyler Steinkamp moved back to midfield to help fill that void, and Rowland switched the team out of its new system and back to a 2-4-4.
Augusta will get back at it today with a road match against Circle. The Orioles then return home for a match Thursday against Mulvane. That game time has been moved up to 4 p.m. due to the Homecoming festivities Thursday night, which includes the Poweder Puff game. The Orioles also have three matches in four days next week.
