A structure fire left one woman in critical condition with extensive burns and led the Butler County Sheriff's deputies to the discovery of a meth lab over the weekend.
Deputies and EMS, along with El Dorado Fire Fighters, were dispatched to a structure fire at 11:49 p.m. Sunday at 1139 SE Bluestem Lot 18, according to Sheriff Kelly Herzet.
"Upon arriving, deputies found a 42-year-old woman with extensive burns to the upper part of her body," he said. "She was transported by EMS to a Wichita hospital."
Herzet said after the fire was extinguished, there was a strong smell of chemicals and suspicious tubing and hosing.
"We believe it was a one-pot meth cook," he said.
Those certified to clean up a meth lab were called in to assist and it was determined it was a meth lab, which caused the fire.
The suspect/victim, Tammy I. Souder of El Dorado, remains in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center.
Another possible suspect, Wayne Souder, had fled the scene but was seen running from the location. He has not been found or questioned.
