Butler Community College will present the Wichita Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Dr. Jacqueline Vietti, president emeritus of Butler Community College, with Excellence in Diversity awards at a breakfast ceremony at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Abode Venue.
SHRM will receive the Community Diversity Award. This award is given to an organization demonstrating exceptional leadership by embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and through innovative practices to foster diversity, inclusion and respect in the community.
Wichita Chapter SHRM members provide expertise in support of a number of activities fostering diversity and inclusion in workplaces and the community. Members volunteer to conduct mock interviews to assist Children First CEO Kansas Inc. with their Future Women in a STEM Career program, which provides a path for low-income girls to choose an aviation or STEM career. SHRM members also help victims of domestic violence acquire skills for the workplace, coach military retirees on career searches and conduct practice interviews with veterans.
Vietti will receive the Diversity Leadership Award. This award honors an individual who has made a difference in his or her organization and in the community by contributing significantly and over a sustained period of time to advancing diversity, inclusion and respect.
Recognized for creating a culture at Butler that thrives on collaboration, Vietti has initiated, participated in or championed countless activities that cultivated diversity and inclusion. The Advance Kansas Diversity Leadership Initiative is one of many enduring examples of how Vietti’s unyielding belief in a cause continues to benefit the college and community. Vietti was a member of the first Advance Kansas class and based upon her experience and the difference it made for her personally and for others in the class, she offered to help sustain the effort by bringing the program to Butler. She was a steadfast supporter of the program during her presidency and remains active with the program after her retirement.
Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. is the presenting sponsor of The Excellence in Diversity Awards Breakfast. Tickets for the breakfast are $45 each and table sponsorships are also available. To order tickets or to request information on sponsorships, call 316-218-6355 or email email@example.com.
Butler Community College established the Excellence in Diversity Award in conjunction with the Advance Kansas program to honor businesses, organizations and individuals who demonstrated exceptional leadership in valuing diversity in the workplace.
Honorees have influenced the broader community by creating an inclusive environment in which individuals are mobilized to share their unique and composite talents, perspectives and experiences to enact lasting solutions to community issues.
The Advance Kansas program brings together leaders from all demographic groups and across all sectors of society: business, education, religion, government, etc., to build leadership skills while also examining and pursing solutions to the challenges and opportunities most pressing in the community. These leaders then take the skills they learn back and use them in their own organizations as well as in the community at large; advancing all types of diversity issues.
