  • For one week each year special attention is brought to fire safety.
The 2013 Fire Safety Week is Oct. 6 through 12 and will focus on preventing kitchen fires.
“Kitchen fires are one of the most prevalent reasons for home fires because of unattended cooking or somebody not having their pans on the stove right and children getting a hold of them,” said Interim Fire Chief Max Brown. “Kitchen fires start more home fires than any other source.”
The theme of “Get Cookin’ with Fire Safety” is all about preventing kitchen fires.
As part of the week, the El Dorado Fire Department will be holding an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at El Dorado Fire Station 2, located at 2600 W. Sixth Ave.
They will have free hot dogs, chips and pop while supplies last; a bounce house; and other fire safety related activities. Those attending also have the opportunity to see the fire trucks up close.
Then the following week, firefighters will be visiting all of the elementary schools to talk about fire safety, as well as talking to a couple of daycares.
