Betty Lou Austin, 85, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Wesley Medical Center. A celebration of her life was held Aug. 19 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
She was born on May 4, 1928 in El Dorado, the daughter of Howard H. and Pearl L. (Sammons) Bailey. She graduated from Towanda High School in 1946. On Sept. 1, 1946, Betty and Jim Austin were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Towanda. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1998. She was a member of First Christian Church in El Dorado; a member of TOPS; enjoyed working with dolls at the doll hospital in Towanda; enjoyed reading; loved all her grandchildren; and loved going to McDonald’s on Mondays for her Ice Mocha.
Those she leaves are her children and their spouses, Jim Austin of El Dorado, John and Lane Austin of Tonopah, Nevada, Diana and Gary Spires of El Dorado, Jerry Austin of Towanda, Donna and Dwayne Sharp of Rosalia, Deborah and William Kurnes of Chico, Texas, and Darcia and Orin Beavers of El Dorado; brothers and sisters, Bud Bailey of El Dorado, Barbara and Jim Brush of Towanda, Don and Olive Bailey of Silver City, N.M., and Toni and Glen Holbrook of Derby; 43 grandchildren; and over 50 great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jeanienne; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
