Wheeler wins Mary Jane Teall awards

Monte Wheeler, Augusta native and son of Sharon Wheeler of Augusta, was named the recipient of three Mary Jane Teall Awards on Sept. 23, at Cabaret Oldtown in Wichita.

The awards created in memory of one of Wichita’s pioneer theatre artists, Mary Jane Teall, seek to promote a mutual respect and camaraderie among the theatrical community and to recognize individuals and theatre groups.

Wheeler received awards in the following categories:

Lead Male Comedy, as Lady Enid, etc. Mystery of Irma Vep.

Supporting Male Musical as Sir Lancelot and others in Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Supporting Male Musical Revue as Alton Bean in Bite It, Wichita! The Foodie Network Challenge.

All three of the aforementioned productions were also recipients of the Mary Jane Teall Audience Favorites.

The talented Wheeler is listed on the website, http://maryjaneteall.org as an award winner for each year since 2005.

Wheeler’s next performances will be this month at the Oklahoma City Lyric Theater’s production of the popular Rocky Horror Show.
