  • I don’t believe our City Council needs “a civic and economics primer”, Mr. Wells. Just because no national brand motel has been here before doesn’t mean Augusta isn’t a good place to invest. We can’t stay stuck in the past forever. That’s what progress and vision is all about. Lots and lots of visitors would stay here in Augusta, but they are taking their business down the road and spending their money in other cities. The motels currently in Augusta have had plenty of time to compete for those visitors. Let a new business have tax incentives.

    In the last city council meeting one of the council members mentioned that he owned land just outside of town on Thunder Rd. and called it “Browntown.” That area has never been referred to as Browntown. The old Browntown site is much further southwest and does not sit on Thunder Rd.
