  • Girls golfers take second at home invitational

  • Augusta's girls golf team took advantage of knowing its home course and put together one of its best performances of the season.
    The Orioles had three top-10 medalists and finished with a team score of 201 to take second place at the Augusta Invitational Monday evening. The Orioles were second only to Maize South, which finished with a team score of 195. Circle took third with a score of 213.
    Baylee Johnston led the Orioles with a score of 47 to take third place overall and earn an medal. Maize South's top two golfers, Lanie Evans (37) and Rachel Schremmer (45), took first and second place, respectively.
    Jackie Brandenburg was just one stroke behind her teammate, but lost a tiebreaker to take fifth place with a score of 48 for the Orioles. Ashley Roby finished with a round of 50 and won a tiebreaker to take seventh. Lyndsey Stuart shot a 56, Becca Spyres a 57 and Sarah Braddy a 58 for the Orioles.
    The Circle Thunderbirds had three top-10 medalists as well. Sidney Gile took fourth place with a round of 48. Summer Alvarez took eighth with a 50. Jayme Hughey took ninth with a 51.
    Augusta competes at the Buhler Invitational this afternoon, then travels to compete at Andale Sept. 30.
