  • The Circle volleyball team participated in the Rossville Tournament on Saturday and placed fifth out of 11 teams, even though they won 4 of their 5 matches.
The Lady Thunderbirds finished in a 3-way tie for first in their pool with Wamego and Abilene.
Because it took Circle three sets to beat Abilene, the Thunderbirds came out of the tie-breaker third, with the top two teams advancing to the championship bracket.
In pool play, Circle was defeated by Wamego in two games going, 21-25, 10-25.
Circle bounced back defeating Abilene in three games going, 26-24, 20-25 and 25-23.
The T-Birds then defeated Tonganoxie in two games, 25-13 and 25-15.
Circle rounded out pool play defeating Oskaloosa in the minimum two games going, 25-16 and 25-16.
Circle then played the third place team from the other pool, Holton, and came out victorious 25-13, 25-13.
“We finished strong against Holton, playing our best match of the day. This is a good tournament for us as we get a chance to play some of the best 4-A teams in northeast Kansas,” said Circle head coach Shelly Nibarger.
Circle moved to 13-4 on the season.
The Thunderbirds compete at the Wichita Collegiate triangular today along with Wellington.
