Obed Schmidt, 86, of Burns, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Obed was born on April 11, 1927 to Allen and Anna Schmidt in Morton, Texas.
Obed was married to Wilma Koehn on June 10, 1951. They shared 46 years of life together until her passing. Obed and Wilma lived in varied areas where they farmed and raised livestock. Obed enjoyed the outdoors and the family has special memories of vacations and holidays together.
Obed was a retired farmer and a member of the Eden Mennonite Church of Burns.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cindy and Wayne Unruh of Fairview, Okla., Audrey and Mark Dirks of Greensburg, and Andrea and Norman Smith of Potwin; son, Anthony Schmidt of Tulsa, Okla.; three brothers, Ivan of Moundridge, Ferd of Burns and Wayne Schmidt; a sister, Edna Giesel of Burns; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Anna (Decker) Schmidt; wife, Wilma (Koehn) Schmidt; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a family service following the visitation, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eden Mennonite Church of Burns, with the committal service following the service.

The last four months of Obed’s life were spent at the Moundridge Manor. At the manor he received loving care from their staff until his passing. The family is saddened with his passing but they will have many enduring memories of him.
