Jimmie Evans, 84, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jimmie was born on Sept. 28, 1928, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Ezra and Eva (Green) Evans. Jimmie attended Beaver High School in Beaver, Okla. He graduated in 1946. He then attended Friends University and received his degree in Elementary Education in 1955 after spending some years working in construction. He received his Masters in Science from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in 1963. Jimmie met the love of his life in his first year at Friends University, Genevieve Faye Collins. They married on Oct. 2, 1949, in Friends Church in Gate, Okla. and began a life devoted to each other and the family they would have together. He moved his family to Leavenworth in 1962 to begin his dream of becoming an Elementary School Principal. He worked in the Leavenworth Public Schools for 36 years as an Elementary School Principal. Jimmie loved working with Big Brothers-Big Sisters. He was a member of the Lions Club in Leavenworth, Kan. He was a Life-long member of the Hazel Nutcrackers Square Dancing Club. He was a member of the Leavenworth Teachers Association. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Jimmie loved Music, Oklahoma University Football, as well as John Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of nearly 64 wonderful years. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his son, Dana Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.) (Sonya) Evans of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Jeanette (David) Desautels of Leavenworth; a daughter in-law, Sharon Evans of Marshfield, Mass.; his grandchildren, Quinn Evans, Capt. USAF, Sara Evans, Ryan Evans, Emily Evans, Madeline Evans, Kristin (Steve) Spacek, Alexandria (Mike) Louk, and Samantha Desautels; three great-grandchildren Noah, Hailee, Summer Louk and with a fourth due in March; and two nieces, Charlene Ayres and Marqueleta Wall. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Evans, a brother, Dearl Evans, and a sister, Owita Ellison. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth, Kan. Services are being provided by R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to First United Methodist Church.
